Melanie G. & Paige — The Heart Behind The WonderLeaf Adventures The WonderLeaf Adventures began with a question. One evening, my nine year old granddaughter Paige came home asking about Juneteenth. Her curiosity was bright—but her classroom hadn’t given her much to work with. I realized then: I couldn’t depend on the school system to teach her the depth of Black history she deserved. As a nurse and clinical researcher, I’ve spent years studying truth and caring for others. But this moment called for something different—something creative, joyful, and rooted in legacy. So, Paige and I sat down together and began building what we wished existed: a series that teaches history through storytelling, emotion, and imagination. We released our first video just in time for Juneteenth, and the response was immediate. Friends, family, and educators told us this wasn’t just a local gap—it was a nationwide need. So we took our videos to school districts, determined to make sure every child could see themselves in the stories that shaped our world. Today, The WonderLeaf Adventures is more than a video series. It’s a movement. Each chapter includes a student worksheet to reinforce learning, and a teacher guide to support classroom conversations. Educators are welcome to expand, adapt, and make it their own—because we believe learning should grow like a tree: rooted in truth, branching toward possibility. And Paige? She’s still at the heart of it all. The main character is named for her—and looks like her, too. Her questions planted the seed. Her spirit keeps it growing.
